  • AWC Clubhouse
The AWC Clubhouse will be closed in honor of His Majesty the King's Birthday on December 5th.

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was born in the United States on December 5, 1927 (Year of the Rabbit) and is the ninth king of the Chakri Dynasty (Rama IX). His name means “Strength of the Land, Incomparable Power.” He ascended the throne June 9, 1946, but his coronation was not until May 5, 1950. He is the longest-reigning monarch of Thailand as well as the world’s longest-serving head of state.

King Bhumibol was educated in Switzerland and is an accomplished musician, artist and sailor. He is the first member of the Royal Family to be granted a patent for an invention, an apparatus for water treatment that can be seen operating in many polluted waterways.

His Majesty entered the monkhood at Wat Bovornnives in 1956, and although Buddhism is the national religion, he upholds all faiths as prescribed in the Constitution.

King Bhumibol is immensely popular and is revered as a semidivine figure by many Thais. His birthday is a national holiday during which his subjects enthusiastically demonstrate their affection and loyalty.
