Come for a half day exploration of two of Bangkok’s many nooks and crannies! We’ll start our outing with a visit to the Bangkokian Museum, located in the Bangrak neighborhood off Charoen Krung Road. It’s tucked away, and not very well known, but its charm is in the pleasure of discovering a small frozen-in-time gem still holding firm amidst the cityscape surrounding it. Sometimes called ‘Bangkok Folk Museum’, it consists mainly of two beautiful wooden houses preserved in perfect condition just the way they were during the first half of the last century. After our walk-through visit, we’ll stay to enjoy a picnic lunch next to a small garden pond.

Then it’s on to Baan Silapin, or the Artist’s House, located on the banks of Khlong Bang Luang, off the Chao Phraya River. A fellowship of artists bought this old wooden house and transformed it into an artist’s residence and public space where they could share their love of traditional Thai culture. Baan Silapin offers a taste of a simpler way of life, with an opportunity to feed the feisty canal fish, discover narrow neighborhood alleyways, and stroll alongside the small storefronts nearby. If we’re lucky, we may be able to catch a traditional Thai puppet performance given by The Kum Nai Puppet Troupe while there.
