                               AWC Scholarship Program

What is our Mission?

To help under privileged female Thai high school students complete their education by providing supplemental financial assistance.  We also encourage them to develop English language skills and to seek further educational opportunities.

Why is it necessary to sponsor a student?

Even though Thai schools no longer charge tuition, schools still charge some fees and students incur costs for lunch, uniforms, school supplies and transportation. These expenses add up to about 6,000 baht per year. Since rice farmers usually net less than 25,000 baht (US$700) per year, many families cannot afford to pay these costs.

What is the Scholarship Program?

Since 1995, the AWC Scholarship Program has supported over 350 students each academic year across rural Thailand.  Scholarships of 6,000 baht per year are raised through this sponsor-driven program.

If you are interested in supporting the Scholarship Program, please contact us here, or email us at scholars@awcthailand.org.

A letter from a student:

Dear American's Women's Club of Thailand

My name is Suvimol. I am studying in M3 in Surin province. My grade point average is 3.19. I am 15 years old. My favorite subject is maths.  In my free time I like to read books. In the future I want to be a teacher.  I live with my father, mother, older brother. My parents are farmers. My older brother works in a factory in Bangkok.  My family is poor.  We have small land to grow rice.  My parents work hard to earn money for me and my family.  My mother always teaches me to be patient because we are poor.  W cannot choose work to do. We must do all kinds of work.  If I get a scholarship I will use it for my studies and to help my parents.  I will use it carefully and worthy.  I hope you can help me.  Thank you very much.
