WALKING TOUR: Art Galleries of Bangkok
Join us as we visit some of the premier art venues in Bangkok. Please meet at the BTS Siam stop at the upper level entrance to Siam Paragon. Once the group is assembled, we will start our tour. If you’re traveling on the BTS, be aware that this is still rush hour and you should give yourself plenty of time.
We will be visiting the Bangkok Art & Culture Center, one of the city’s few institutions dedicated to modern art. Continuing westward, we will visit Damrong Rachanupob Museum and Library. It’s like taking a walk back in time. This museum is attributed to Prince Damrong, King Mongkut’s (Rama IV) son. Then we’ll walk to The Queen’s Gallery with its displays of Thai fine arts. Then we’re off to see the National Gallery with its displays of modern and traditional art and, finally, Silpakorn University Art Gallery. The Faculty of Art and Sciences is the most prestigious in the country for art students and features exhibits from the students. Our progress along the route will determine which venues we will go inside.
This is a long walking tour, distance-wise. We’ll be covering about 6 kilometers. However, between the museums and galleries, there will be so many wonderful sights and photo opportunities such as Democracy Monument, October 14th Memorial, an amulet market, etc., you won’t even notice the distance. Please remember to bring your camera! And since it’s a longer walk, please bring water and your own “Scooby snacks.”
We will end the tour with lunch in the Silpakorn University area. The cost of lunch is not included in the tour price and is the responsibility of the registrant. Drivers should be told to pick you up at the corner of Maharat and Na Phralan Roads (northwest corner of the Grand Palace).
