“Flavors and life within the slums of Bangkok”

Bangkok is a metropolis famous for its magnificent temples and beautiful sights among foreigners. For this activity, we take you to a place where you get to taste the real life of locals living in one of the city's largest urban slums.

Saiyuud “Poo” Diwong is the founder of Bangkok’s popular Helping Hands Thai Cooking School in the Klong Toey slums and author of a new English-language cookbook, Cooking with Poo.

Over the years, Poo, which actually means "crab" in Thai, has raised awareness of the Klong Toey slum through her cooking school. The school was founded as part of a fair trade community self-help program that she put together with four other residents. Through her work and efforts, she has empowered a lot of people in her community bogged down with poverty, alcoholism, drugs and prostitution.

Visit her website at www.cookingwithpoo.com

Come and join us for a day of learning local dishes and helping Poo with her humanitarian efforts!
