AWC members and the public are invited to come and shop for some Bangkok buys of the year! We are open from 9:30 to noon on Wednesdays and welcome your patronage.

Looking to make a difference this year? Consider volunteering with the AWC Thrift Shop.

Join us and be a part of the giving. We meet on Monday mornings to sort and price items, and on Wednesday mornings for sales to the public and the AWC.

If you can spare some time to help us either morning, or hopefully both, you can make a huge difference in helping us help the AWC and Thai community.

If you have never played and always wanted to learn, this is the perfect group for you! Join us for a fun day at the clubhouse, enjoying Mahjong and friendly conversation.

We start playing at 10:30 a.m. and play until 3...but we always take time out to enjoy a little lunch (delivery, of course) and non-Mahjong chat.

THAI FRUIT CARVING (June 20, 2013)

Thai cuisine has a wonderful balance of contrasting flavors, spicy, sweet, salty, sharp and subtle. Many of us also have noticed that the dishes’ aesthetics is taken seriously and with great pride as the locals believe that the food should please the eye as well as the palate. One particularly unique and delightful part of Thai cuisine is the art of carving fruit and vegetables. There is a long tradition of fruit carving in this country, especially in the preparation of food for the Royal Family.

Using a fruit carver’s knife, an ordinary papaya or pumpkin is turned into a bouquet of flowers, a carrot into a rare orchid.

Get in touch with your artistic side and sign up! We will be served with light snacks and a selection of refreshing fruit juice afterwards.

Are you a tennis enthusiast? Come and join us on Fridays! This is intermediate-level play, with an emphasis on social and fun.

We play doubles for two hours beginning at 7:30 am sharp! We have adopted a rotation system of either 3 or 4 rounds, to give each player an opportunity to partner with and against everyone in the group. It's really a lot of fun, and a great way to meet other ladies who share the love of tennis.

The Thrift Shop invites all AWC members to help us support Thai charities by bringing in your secondhand items as donation or consignment goods. We accept clothing, shoes, books, kitchenware, small appliances, linens, decorative items and toys. In addition to these items, we are always in need of your extra shopping bags, especially the large ones.

Bring your used items to the clubhouse anytime between 9:30 a.m. and Noon.

Want a great way to start your week? Join us to share coffee, conversation, and connect with friends, old and new. Everyone is welcome, no matter where you've come from, how long you’ve been in Bangkok or how long you are planning to stay.

No need to RSVP - just show up! CC is every Monday rain or shine...Thai or American holiday...two people or 25!

We meet every Monday from 10:00 am to 11:45 am at the Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit in the coffee area on the Ground Floor. The new Marriott is located at the Thonglor BTS station. Although we are meeting in the lobby area, we can order off the menu for a light snack or breakfast. Let’s please respect their request and refrain from bringing in outside food and drinks.

See you at the movies!

Are you a movie buff? Do you love to catch all of the new releases as soon as they hit the theatre. This club is for you!

An e-mail will be sent out monthly to those people who have signed up, detailing which movie, where, the time and meeting place. Due to the fact that the movie times are prone to change, an e-mail will be sent out early that day with any changes.

We will meet the last Thursday of the month, a ½ hour before the movie and we will all purchase our own tickets at the same time. (Show times will be in the morning). Those who have the time can go to lunch afterwards.

Everyone is welcome to join, however, RSVPs are expected from those people intending to come to that particular movie, so that I know to look out for you.

Celebrate America’s birthday at AMCHAM’s annual Independence Day Celebration!
Saturday, July 6, 2013
12:00 to 8:00 pm at KIS International School

The Independence Day Committee has a great day planned with lots of American food and drink, music and activities, and a chili cook-off.

We need lots volunteers for the AWC booth!!

If you and your family are planning to come out for the day, please consider volunteering (husbands, partners, significant others, teens, adult children~are all welcomed!!) an hour (or more) of your time to help out. Be part of the Independence Day celebration by serving hamburgers, hotdogs and drinks at the AWC booth on Saturday, July 6th!

It will be a great day of food, music, games and fun for everyone.

A full BBQ with real American hot dogs, burgers and ribs, along with apple pie and ice cream and a huge selection of classic and craft American beers.
This year is the 4th annual Chili Cook-Off. If you can cook a mean bowl of chilli then don't miss the opportunity of becoming the Big Chili winner or come be a judge and vote for the people’s choice.
Food and beverage booths provided by Anantara Bangkok Riverside, Dairy Queen, Roadhouse Barbecue, Sunrise Tacos, Siam Winery, Baskin Robbins, and others.
American Rock, Blues and Folk will play all afternoon from Bangkok's best American bands, including: Krispy Durian; Southern Cross; Mekong Doctor Blues & The Groove Junkies; Wildside; Peter Driscoll and His Cruisers; and Matt Fischer and the Fishes.
Kids will have a great day at 'Mattel-Land,' with face-painting and clowns, a giant wave slide, a rodeo bull, cotton candy and popcorn.
Family fun with an egg toss, three-legged races, tug 'o war and Bingo.

Advance tickets are available at the AMCHAM office for 200 baht. Tickets are available at the event for 300 baht. Children under 12 are free.

NEWCOMERS' TEA (July 11, 2013)

NOTE: We'll meet the 11th instead of the 4th this month as the AWC will be closed that day for US Independence Day.

Are you new to Bangkok or its surrounding area? Or are you new to the American Women's Club of Thailand? Would you like to meet some other ladies who, like yourself, are new and still others who have lived here for awhile? If so, please consider attending our Newcomers' Welcome Tea. We would like to get to know you! Being away from your home for the first time or the tenth time can be overwhelming and connecting with other women and families in the same situation can greatly help.

At our Welcome Tea, we will visit over a cup of tea/coffee, introduce you to the club and the areas you can get involved in, answer your questions, provide resources, and hopefully ease the transition to a new country and better assist you in enjoying Thailand and all it has to offer.

When: The first Thursday of the month from 9:30 to 11:00 am except holidays.

Where: AWC Clubhouse

This is a very casual, welcoming event, but we do ask you to RSVP by registering online www.awcthailand.org so that we can expect you. If AWC can assist you in anyway, please allow us to do so!
